Peace at the Center

By Julia Fowler, Worship Arts Pastor

Text: John 14:26-28  "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

A reporter once asked President Herbert Hoover how it was that he could handle such diversified moments of fame and approval followed by such severe dissatisfaction and criticism.  Hoover responded saying that his strength to sustain came from a deeper, inner place--a "peace at the center" of his being.

There are several of you I look to with admiration and respect because you too have seemed to exude this same peacefulness in the midst of your trials.  For others this area is one we will do well to examine - asking ourselves if in fact we are living and responding to the temporal things of this life knowing there is a peace available to sustains us even beyond what we can hope for or understand.

When Jesus left his physical form on this earth one of his final promises was that he would send a counselor, a comforter, a peace that would remain - a peace beyond anything this world could imagine or explain.  God doesn't give like the world gives.  There are no attachments, requirements, pre-requisites, or pre-qualifications needed to receive his peace except that you simply believe and receive it!

You too can know and experience the joy of having God's peace at the center of your life!
