Faithful to Follow

By Julia Fowler, Worship Arts Pastor

Text: Joshua Chapters 14 thru 17

"When asked the secret of his success, William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, said, “God has had all there was of me to have. From the day I got the poor of London on my heart, and a vision of what Jesus Christ would do for them, I made up my mind that God would have all there was of William Booth. God has had all the adoration of my heart, all the power of my will, and all the influence of my life.” --Sermon Illustrations.com

Like General Booth, Caleb was faithful to follow after God with all of his heart.  Isn't wasn't until many years later that Caleb was actually able to receive the inheritance that was rightfully his, but he stayed the course to remain faithful to follow God no matter what.

Many times I have sung or spoken the words of a faithful follower but in my heart not really been devoted to that everyday, moment by moment task.  Living a Christian life involves much more than your faithful attendance to church services, worship teams, Sunday school classes or even your personal devotions.  Without real intention our Christianity boils down to nothing more than a fast-food drive thru service.  A quick stop to grab a bite of this and that, but the satisfaction is short lived.

What would you say if you were asked to answer this one question: Does God have all of you there is to have?
