Text: Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
It’s always a choice. Oh we are certainly confronted with days full of conflict, misery, obstacles, confusion, doubt and the list goes on and on, still rejoicing and being glad in the day you have been given to enjoy, regardless of your circumstances, IS a choice!
I started off the Sunday evening service this past week with this little chorus not realizing the impact it would have on my week. The declaration to commit to rejoicing is hard and yet necessary. Life is going to throw you numerous amounts of curve balls – you can count on it, but your response to rejoice and be glad must be consistent if you want to have the power to preserver in the times that are the toughest.
In his book, Fear Not by Max Lucado he writes, “This is the day” includes every day. Divorce days, final-exam days, surgery days, tax days. Sending-your-firstborn-off-to-college days. God mad this day, ordained this hard hour, designed the details of this wrenching moment. He isn’t on holiday. He still holds the conductor’s baton, sits in the cockpit, and occupies the universe’s only throne. Every day emerges from God’s drawing room. Including this one.”
Perhaps you need to hear more encouragement today that God is near you. Max is offering everyone the opportunity to read through the first chapter of his new book and you can download a PDF copy of it by clicking on the link below. Let me know if you wind up reading it and how it helped to encourage you to rest and rejoice in the day God has given you, no matter what!

Funny that this is your devotional this week because I just sat in the parking lot of the church with a friend for an hour yesterday having this exact conversation. I will be needing to get a copy of this book for her so that she can read it but in the mean time I will print her a copy of the first chapter. Thanks for sharing this!
